Art and Corporation Collaboration Project – Popular South West‧Fun with Art in the Park

In December of 2010, in order to celebrate the one year anniversary of the four public artworks installed by MOCA Taipei in MRT Zhongshan Stations’ linear park, a festive anniversary party was held.  In addition to performances given by various bands, a series of free creative workshops were held in the park that day. Many of the local residents expressed that with the fun ambiance created that day, it was one of the most interesting, touching, and enjoyable days they’ve had in this linear park.

With the success of this art party, the team at MOCA Taipei realized the residents’ passion and desire for well-designed community-based art events. However, due to the lack of human resources, this project was then suspended at a proposal development phase.

In the beginning of 2011, the nearby Shinkong Mitsukoshi Department Store South West Branch together with Taishin Bank with the mission to expand its credit card sales in the south west commercial district both came to MOCA Taipei and expressed they have noticed the museum’s efforts in community outreach in the recent years, and hope to collaborate with the museum.  Because of their interests, the previously impossible dream was made possible with the help of corporation resources!

Since March of 2011, without added human resources, with the financial support from Taishin Bank and being a part of the community, MOCA Taipei initiated the series of events for the project Popular South West‧Fun with Art in the Park at the last weekend of every month at the Zhongshan MRT linear park.  The project was based on the integration of “commercial district, festivities, and exhibitions,” with a different monthly theme, exhibitions, creative workshops, and concerts.  Community residents were invited to partake in the celebration and spent enjoyable weekends together. The entire series consisted of 16 events throughout the year, with 12,867participants.
