The year 2009 marked the 3rdyear of the “Artist-in-School” program at Jan Cheng Junior High School. The program has obtained positive responses from students and teachers, and also brought the aesthetics of contemporary art closer to local residents.  MOCA Taipei invited artists Hung-Kun Kuo, Tzi-Chin Huang, and Kelvin Tsai to collaborate with Jan Cheng Junior High School teachers Yang-Teh Chen and Li-Jung Huang to teach eighth grade students from three classes.  The students reconstructed the familiar landscape of Datong District with textile printing and dyeing, image collage, and sound-creating techniques.  The exercise also offered the students a new perspective with sensitivity and humanism towards local cultures. In addition, director of the Drumba Theater Tzu-Ling Peng led the students in the preparation of community parade props, and a physical performance was also organized with them.

In 2007, MOCA Taipei extended its “Artist-in-School” program for the first time to the neighboring Rixin Elementary School. Under the guidance of art educator Zhong-Ming Yang and teacher Hui-Ling Wang, the entire 6thgrade and part of the fifth grade classes transformed the “seven-character quatrain” from Chinese literature into creative art lanterns.
