Japanese artist, Takafumi Hara, created an oil painting exhibition, “Signs of Memory” for the window panels outside of MOCA Taipei, the pieces were based on his interviews of the local residents of Datong District. Upon understanding the historical and distinct stories of the community, the artist created those paintings from 67 sentences that were most memorable from the oral recounts of the local residents. Throughout the exhibition, Hara collaborated with Jan Cheng Junior High School in designing a “booklet of memory”, and inside these beautiful books that were personally illustrated by the artist, various questions were listed for 561 students from the 7th and 8th grades at the school to freely express their views about themselves, society, the country, and the future.

Additionally, Hara also designed another “Memory Cards for Us” that invited 6th grade students from Rixin Elementary School to write down on these cards their hopes for themselves in ten years.  These cards were made into a colorfully painted installation created by these students on a flip-board and exhibited at the MRT Zhongshan underground book street.
